Hey, this has got to be our first post in months. Well it feels like years to be honest!
But there is important news. Andy is back from Afghanistan and, bored of being shot at and having rockets fired in his general direction, he’s looking to leave the RAF meaning that we shouldn’t have to go through such an extended break again! YAY!!
However, he can’t leave until he’s found something else to do so if anyone’s got a job that might interest a genius guitarist who’s also a dab-hand as an Electrical Engineer then get in touch with him through this website. Jobs must be in the Swindon/Lyneham/Chippenham sort of area. There must be something out there!
Anyway - enough of the begging. We had our first rehearsal in two months on Thursday and it was awesome. I think all of us were pleasantly surprised with how well it went. So now we’re just focusing on getting things right for our warm-up gig on 9th December at The Grapes in Swindon and then our full on return to glory at the newly opened 12Bar in Swindon on 21st December. That gig, we’re supporting the Citizens and it’s going to be an awesome blow-out just in time for Xmas… can’t wait.
We’re going into the studio tomorrow to re-record Politics for Lunch with our new drummer Roy. Roy only had about 4 weeks with us before Andy left for Bliar’s war (no that’s no spelling mistake) so we didn’t have a chance to get a recording with him on it. However, there’s an EP selection ‘contest’ happening in Swindon that we want to get in on and the closing date is 1st December so we want to get it re-recorded for that.
The organisers of this EP are trying to find the best tracks from the best local bands and basically, it’s going to be a Bands vs DJs affair. What this means is, on one hand, the bands’ original recordings will be on the disc but then the tracks are going to be remixed by local DJs too - giving everyone some exposure. Great idea and we hope that Politics For Lunch will get picked for the track-list.
Which brings me neatly on to the YouTube business. Back in the day (before the war took our Andy away), a local band called The Knott went into the studio and recorded a song (PFL). After their drummer quit (Sam - remember him?) they went into a Video Studio and pranced around like idiots in front of a Green Screen. A very well spoken gentleman named Mark Newson then took all the resulting film, chucked in some lovely edits and royalty free clips and made the following video. Unfortunately, Roy wasn’t with us then and, therefore doesn’t appear in the video, but we’ll be reshooting in the future so don’t worry - you’ll get to see our drummer-boy in the near future.
You’ll notice that the video is 6 minutes long while the song’s only about 2 minutes 40 itself … that’s because there are actually two versions in one here. The first is in colour and the second, although exactly the same, is in black and white. Anyway, we’ve had this knocking about for a couple of months now and now, for the whole world to see through the magic of YouTube is Politics For Lunch by The Knott…
