How many hits????

Posted by Matt

At the time of writing this, the three tunes I posted at almost midnight last night have received almost 120 plays. That’s 120 plays in 18 hours. That’s over 6 plays an hour!

That’s quite cool :) Can’t wait to hear the finished articles.

by the way, glad you’re now getting on with the pedal Andy. Can’t wait to hear you make good use of that too!

Wake The Nation reset to 0 plays for the second time

Posted by Matt

But this time, there’s good reason! (edit: Can’t believe I didn’t mention that the play count was up to about 224 when I reset the track. That made over 400 plays in total!!)

I’ve managed to obtain some pre-production copies of the 3 tracks we recorded on Sunday, once again with the help of Andy R and Dream Recording Studios for the use of their rehearsal room (thanks guys).

We laid down three tracks, “Wake The Nation” (we like that one ;o) ), “Politics For Lunch” and “Road To Freedom” which is the new all-band collaboration we recently wrote. Thanks to Mike Davies on Saxaphone on that one.

They’re all posted on our myspace page, and also on our new tagworld page which is much the same as myspace but what the hey, as much prescence as possible. I should have blogged it already, but hadn’t. So there’s the link anyways. I’ve put it over there on the right as well, as well as a link to Dream Recording Studios website. (So that makes three on this page now ;o) )

The recordings have had virtually nothing done to them yet, so there’s some work to be done yet, but we’ll have that done in the next few days and then we’ll post the finished copies.

Can’t wait to hear the finished articles though!!

<<>>
It should be noted that the tagworld system is still in beta mode. In case you’re not a geek, in english that means it’s still being tested, in this case, by the general public. So because of that, their music upload system doesn’t work very well.

For example, it won’t upload mp3s because it doesn’t think they’re mp3s. Go figure.

Anyway, there’s a way round the problem, but I need my sleep so I’ll sort it out tomorrow.

Another New Song!Another Great Day In The STUDIO!!

Well there are good days, and there are GOOD days !
Today was a GOOD day Andy R thanks so much for todays work …..And the rest of the guys involved in todays studio session were; On sexy saxaphone Mike Davies ( Hampsters from hell! plus a whole host of other notorious projects!)
Keyboard craftsman James JIM JIM Eddings(heatwave,Inner sound and virtually every church on the East coast of the United states that houses a piano!)

TODAYS session was mainly a recording stint! Quite a few minutes sat waiting to play! But it was worth it in the end!!!! The whole feel of the songs recorded today was right! It was a great feeling to do the vocals pretty much in one hit !!!!!!Good work guys!!

YET again, The Knott pull another belter out of the song bag(still to be fully arranged but it is still a real humdinger!) great bassline matt my boy! mmmm
Well done Sam, the drumming seemed a lot more fluid today , worked hard today fair play mate ……….
NEXT ON THE AGENDA FOR THE KNOTT
Wake The Nation video shooting starts hopefully in June/July and Shooting Star some time after. Not really sure how long the shooting of the video will take but its sure to be fun ,There are a couple of locations being suggested however the number of people already destined to be featured in it, means we may need a larger set!!!! In the end The More The Merrier! Watch This Space or Myspace for further details on how to have the chance to feature in the Wake the nation video or any other projects we embark on!!! Love out to the M u s i c L o v e r s o n m y s p a c e keep the passion wagon rolling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update on the recordings and another 5 strings

Posted by Matt

There’s bad news and then some good news in this post.

First the bad news (because it’s always better to get these things out of the way first).

Unfortunately, the recordings we did on 7 May are no longer available. Andy R who had recorded us at Dream Rehearsal Rooms in Swindon told me the story yesterday.

During a rouge installation of MusicMatch player, an inadvertant button click caused a complete search and add of all music files of ALL denominations to the MM library. I am guessing that the file names created by the multi-tracking software on his laptop were quite long, incorporating the song title, track title etc. and MusicMatch went and renamed every single track with the age old DOS format of filena~1.wav, filena~2.wav so that all the tracks were completely indistinguishable from each other.

Andy did contemplate trying to listen to each file individually to see if he could determine the instrument AND song but found the whole process a tad difficult and way too time consuming.

But the good news is, Andy’s going to come to our rehearsal again this week so we’ll get a chance to do a few more single takes. I’d like to see if we can get the new song Road To Freedom down as well. That song is going to be Soooooo awesome.

The other bit of good news is my new guitar turned up today. I’ve bought a brand spanking new black Yamaha BB415 5-string bass from www.soundslive.co.uk and it was delivered today - alright I had to go pick it up from the courier’s depot but I got it about an hour ago none the less.

Why is that when you pop out for half an hour, that’s when the courier turns up? Do they wait round the corner waiting for you to leave and then pounce with the card in hand and already completed (partially) to shove it through your letterbox or what?

Anyway, I’m just waiting for my little one to wake up from our nap so I can plug the
new beast in and try out the action ;o)

That’s all for now, I’ll let you know how it fits in with the band after Sunday.

It didnt take long for Largeit to finally crack this myspace revolution……..
What a beautiful enviroment this is ,we can play ,play plaaay………………..

Hello there did you know that your Beautiful? Do you know you are special? Out there in this big greedy world, there is a rare but often imitated type of person who, when born are compelled to perform and it is with a confident (not arrogant) flick of my tongue, quip THE KNOTT ARE GONNA BLOW!!!!!!!!
There are things happening in this sleepy little town of ours, there are some performers out there flying the flag for good honest artistry creation , virtuosity is seemingly rife in this town of ours…….. There is no point in saying “Long may it continue” seeing I have all the tools I need to make sure that never happens.

The best thing about a comment like that is; All the other bands ands artists alike will be proclaiming(EVEN IN PRIVATE) that they are the ones to raise this towns profile, they are the ones running faster, further (with better shoes on) The thing is thats the reaction thats needed to keep the scene vibrant and emotive……

I Would like to put out a shout to the true believers out there trying to make a mark in their own history and more Importantly on others this shout is to;;;;;

Al bridges guitarist,singer-songwriter ,the world will be your right of way soon my humble but fearsomely gifted friend
Rob (Rozza)Roswell, inspiration,song-writer, a friend to all creators of music in this town of swindon and beyond!

Latest Stuff

Hi all,

Just a brief post to let you know what I’ve been up to.

Changed the photo for Wake The Nation on our myspace site although there seems to be a bug in the system and I had to delete the song and reupload it with the new photo. No major problem although now we’re not credited with the 189 plays it had had in the past 5 days. To be fair, I don’t have a clue as to how many plays is good or bad, but I reckon almost 40 a day is pretty bloody good for an unsigned band’s first DEMO release! It bodes well for the future methinks :D Anyway - we can just start counting again and at least now we have a record here of how many hits we had.

Speaking of hits, it’s exactly one month tomorrow since I started the myspace site and we’ve had 439 hits as of today. Again, pretty good going for our first month’s presence after only two gigs and one band recording released. Big smiles all round :)

So on top of that, I’ve signed up with SwindonMusic.co.uk as well to get a presence on there. You can find the link in the links box (that’s surprising isn’t it?…). Should help drive some traffic and interest our way :D

So, looking forward to the next gig on 9 June at The Bear in Marlborough. Going to try and organise a nice visual experience to accompany the band too… gonna have to see how that pans out though!

NEW DEMO AVAILABLE!!! Wake The Nation

Posted by Matt

I think we mentioned that we did some recording on Sunday last? Yes we did… ok, well I’ve only got one track at the moment but it’s available now on our myspace site. The track I’ve posted is Wake The Nation.

Remember it’s only a Demo - it’s a bit rough round the edges (my bass sound needs a little work, although the concept is there) but it’s listenable and rocks the rooftops. All of these tracks were recorded live, there’s no overdubbing, no vocal treatments and apart from a couple of false starts :) these are single takes.

We hope to have some studio recordings done before the end of the year, but we’ll have to see how things go first - gotta run before you can walk and we’ve still only been around about 6 weeks as a band ;o)

We’ve got five more tracks to get from Andy R who did the recording for us and I’ve got give HUGE thanks to him for his time on Sunday and the several hours he spent last night mixing this one track down. Unfortunately, he’s off on holiday tomorrow for a week (I found out today) but I can’t wait to hear the other 5 tracks when he returns.

Once we’ve got the rest of the Demo, we’ll rotate through them on our myspace site over the next few weeks so check back often. In fact, add us to your friends list and we’ll start issuing bulletins about what’s happening. That way you can always stay up to date with The Knott!

Til next time, chill out, smoke loads, drink more and listen to Wake The Nation!

Slight Tweak

Posted by Matt

I’ve just made a slight tweak to this site. I realised that there was a link to view the comments but no link to actually POST a comment. So I added it quickly. :D

Anyone can post comments so let us know what you think.

About the rehearsal today, I agree with Andy, it was definitely the most productive time we’ve spent together to date. We got 6 tracks down - they still need to be mixed but we were pretty pleased with our performances I think.

To be fair, I’m a perfectionist, so I won’t be happy with my own performance and those slight timing issues or innocent bum notes will jump out of the speaker and smack me round the head! But all in all, as a demo, we should get something decent out of it. At least the visitors to our MySpace site will be able to hear what we do!

And the tune we penned collectively at the end! Wow! It’s called “Road To Freedom” (at the moment it is at least!) and I reckon it’s going to be our ‘flagship’ song. It grooves, it’s got a great chorus and I haven’t stopped humming it yet!

Anyway - baby needs feeding - got to go!

Best Practice Ever

Posted by Andy

Hello All ,

Just got back from an amazing practice; had such a laugh .We have wrote such a kick ass tune in the last 30 minutes of it . Plus at the practice we had Andy And Neil who I both met for the first time today. They recorded 6 tracks so we should soon have some actual The Knott songs on Myspace for you. They were really fantastic and we have another recording session booked with them for two weeks time. Whether I get to that point remains to be seen as my wife grows ever more pregnant with my on-coming first daughter Evelyn who is due in three weeks time……..

Oh and I took a few photos to put on here. Hope they’re ok.
